BFT Gate Motor & Opener in Arlington: What to Know First

We service BFT gate motors and openers throughout Arlington, Texas, and we do it with the gate still hanging in your driveway. Most BFT motor repairs take us one visit, and we quote the price before we turn a single screw. BFT is solid Italian engineering, but Arlington’s heat and humidity find the weak spots faster than BFT’s own documentation admits.

Call (817) 241-4067

If you own a BFT gate that’s stopped opening, started grinding, or trips the breaker every time it tries to move, this page is for you. We’re Gatewood Fence & Gate, an independent BFT service provider owned and operated by Hal Gatewood since 2001. Call (817) 241-4067 and a live person picks up. Not a voicemail. Not a call center. Hal or one of his crew, every time.

How BFT Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

BFT builds good motors. But every brand has its habits, and after two decades fixing gates in Arlington, we know BFT’s by heart. Here are the five failures we see most on BFT openers, what actually causes them, and how we handle each one.

  • BFT Deimos series capacitor failure. The Deimos BT A400 and A600 models use a start capacitor that doesn’t love Arlington summers. When it swells and pops, the motor hums but won’t turn the gate. We see this on Deimos units around the five-to-seven-year mark almost like clockwork. We replace the capacitor with a higher-temperature-rated component, check the motor windings for heat damage, and you’re back in business. Some outfits will quote you a whole new motor. You almost never need one.
  • BFT Rigel 5 limit switch drift. The Rigel 5 slide gate operator uses magnetic limit switches that can drift out of position over time, especially on gates that get bumped or wind-shoved. Symptom: the gate stops three feet short of fully open, or overruns and slams the post. BFT’s manual tells you to reprogram. We do that, then we check the physical switch mounts because if the mount is loose, reprogramming lasts a week. The fix is mechanical first, electronic second.
  • BFT Phobos grease breakdown on the worm gear. The Phobos N and Phobos L swing gate operators have a worm gear drive that BFT lubricates at the factory. That grease turns to paste in Arlington’s clay-dust air and 100-degree August afternoons. You’ll hear a moaning sound when the gate moves, then eventually it won’t move at all. We open the housing, clean the old grease completely out, inspect the gear teeth for scoring, and repack with a synthetic grease that holds up in North Texas heat.
  • BFT Thalia control board water ingress. The Thalia and Thalia P light-duty swing operators are common on Arlington residential gates, and their plastic enclosures crack at the corner screws after enough sun exposure. Hairline crack you can’t even see. Then a hard rain gets in and the control board shorts. We replace the board with a factory BFT part when it makes sense, then re-seal the enclosure and often relocate the mounting point so it’s not sitting in direct afternoon sun. We also add drainage on the low side. BFT’s housing design doesn’t leave much room for error.
  • BFT roller bearing fatigue on slide gates. BFT slide motors have to work against the gate’s own rollers, and in Arlington clay soil those rollers sink, bind, and put load on the motor it was never designed for. Symptom: the motor strains, draws more current, and eventually the thermal overload trips. We check the track and rollers every single time, because fixing the motor without fixing the bind means you’ll call us again in six months. Sometimes the motor survives, sometimes it doesn’t. We tell you straight either way.

Our BFT Gate Motor & Opener Process

Here’s what happens when you call us about a BFT gate motor issue in Arlington, start to finish.

  1. 1
You call (817) 241-4067. A live person answers, asks what the gate is doing or not doing, and we set a time. Not a window. A time.
  2. 2
We show up and diagnose. We test the motor, the board, the limit settings, the capacitor, the gearbox, and the physical gate itself. BFT problems are often two things at once: an electrical fault and a mechanical bind. We find both.
  3. 3
We give you a price before we touch a wrench. You know the number. We know the number. No “we’ll see what we find.” We’ve been doing this long enough to know what we’ll find.
  4. 4
Parts decision, with your call. We use BFT OEM parts when they’re the right choice and available locally or fast. When an aftermarket part does the same job with a better track record, we say so. You decide. We never install a part that voids a warranty you still have.
  5. 5
The repair. We fix it on site. We don’t haul your gate to a shop. We don’t swap the board because the capacitor was the problem. We fix what’s broken and leave what’s working alone.
  6. 6
Test, clean up, and put it in writing. We run the gate through full open-close cycles ten times. We clean up every tool and scrap. And we hand you the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, Hal comes back. Plain and simple.

What BFT Gate Motor & Opener Costs in Arlington

Here’s what we charge for the BFT jobs we handle most in Arlington. These aren’t vague ranges from a national price book. They’re what we actually quote.

  • BFT capacitor replacement: $120-$180 installed, depending on the model.
  • BFT limit switch replacement and calibration: $180-$260.
  • BFT control board replacement (Thalia/Deimos/Rigel): $340-$560 including the part.
  • BFT gearbox service (clean, regrease, inspect): $220-$320.
  • BFT complete motor replacement: $700-$1,400 depending on whether it’s a swing or slide, and which series.

What moves the price is parts availability on that specific BFT series, how much mechanical binding we’re working against, and whether the install space is easy to reach or buried behind an overgrown hedge. We give you the number before work starts, and that number doesn’t change. Estimate is free. Call (817) 241-4067 and we’ll give you a straight quote over the phone or after a quick driveway visit.

Why Arlington Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for BFT Work

Because we’ve been at it since 2001, and we live here. Hal Gatewood grew up near Pantego on the southwest side of Arlington and took welding courses at Tarrant County College before he ever charged anybody a dollar to fix a gate. The name is on the shop. The address is published. The license number is real and verifiable. That’s the oldest kind of accountability there is.

Every BFT job carries our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. Calls are answered by a live person 24/7. And we service nine gate brands, so if your BFT unit really is toast and a different opener makes more sense for your driveway, we’ll tell you that too. We work on LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing openers every week. We’re not married to BFT. We’re married to doing right by your gate.

We also honor a few standing offers that don’t require any haggling: $40 off any repair over $200, no trip charge inside the county, a free second opinion on any written estimate, and a permanent 10% discount for seniors and veterans.

FAQs

Does Gatewood Fence & Gate honor BFT warranties? We’re an independent BFT service provider, not a BFT-authorized repair center, so we don’t process manufacturer warranty claims directly. If your BFT unit is still under warranty, we’ll tell you to contact BFT first. If the warranty is expired, we’ll fix it for less than a new motor in almost every case.

Can you get BFT parts quickly in Arlington? Yes. Common BFT parts like capacitors, limit switches, and control boards are usually available same-week through our local suppliers. Some model-specific boards or gearboxes for older Rigel or Phobos units may take a few days. We’ll always tell you the timeline before we start.

Is it worth repairing an older BFT opener, or should I replace it? If the housing and gearbox are in good shape, we repair them. A BFT motor that’s been maintained can run 15-plus years. If the gears are shredded and the housing is cracked from Arlington sun, an honest quote tells you replacement makes more sense. We’ll never talk you into a new opener when a $200 repair does the job.

How fast can you get to a BFT gate motor breakdown? We run calls across Arlington six days a week, and we answer the phone 24/7. For a gate that won’t open at all, we work BFT calls into the schedule the same day whenever we can. When it’s an emergency and your car is stuck behind the gate, Hal will tell you exactly when he’s on the way.

Do you integrate BFT openers with intercoms and battery backup? Yes. We wire BFT motors to intercom and keypad systems regularly, and we install battery backup units on BFT openers so the gate still operates when the power drops. Arlington gets storms that knock power out for hours. A gate that won’t open because a transformer blew is a gate we can prevent.

Just give me a call - I’ll pick up. And if you’d rather look a person in the eye, the shop’s down the road, and the name on the door is the same as the one on the invoice.
