Linear Gate Installation in Arlington: What to Know First

Linear gate installation in Arlington typically runs $1,800 to $6,500 depending on whether it’s a single swing gate, a double driveway gate, or a slide gate with a heavy-duty operator. We’re an independent Linear service provider, not a franchise, and we install and service the full range: from the older APeX and ProSafe series to the current PRO Access line. Most Linear installs take one full day, and we quote the price before we lift a tool. If you own a Linear opener and the gate itself has failed, or you’re starting fresh with a Linear operator, call (817) 241-4067 and we’ll get you squared away properly.

This page is for Arlington homeowners with a Linear gate operator or gate hardware who want it installed right the first time. If you’re dealing with a sagging gate, a dead operator, or a full new driveway gate installation, you’re in the right place.

How Linear Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Linear makes a solid operator. But around here, we see the same failure patterns on Linear gear year after year, and most of them aren’t the operator’s fault. They’re the gate’s fault, or the previous install’s fault. Here’s what we run into in Arlington.

  • ProSafe and APeX operator burned out by a binding gate. The older Linear ProSafe and APeX series are workhorses, but they have one weakness: they’ll keep pushing against resistance until the thermal overload trips, and over time that kills the motor. The real culprit is almost never the operator. It’s a hinge post that settled, or a gate that was installed without enough clearance, so the operator is fighting friction on every cycle. We fix the gate geometry first, then install or repair the operator. The operator is the symptom; the post is the problem.
  • PRO Access controller confused by Arlington thunderstorms. The Linear PRO Access line has a control board that’s more sensitive to power surges than older models. We get calls after every thunderstorm season: the operator won’t respond, or it beeps and flashes a code. A surge can scramble the board’s memory even when the motor is fine. We check the board, reflash the limits when the board is salvageable, and recommend a surge protector on the circuit. That’s a $40 part that saves a $400 board.
  • Gate sag that Linear operators can’t fix. Linear operators are strong. They’re not miracle workers. When a swinging gate sags, the latch side drags on the ground or the pickets start binding against the post, and the operator strains harder and harder. Some folks think adjusting the operator’s force limit fixes the sag. It doesn’t. It masks it until something breaks. We weld the sag out, sleeve or replace the post if we have to, and only then do we touch the Linear operator. Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice.
  • Photo eyes and safety edges installed backward, or never installed at all. Linear operators are designed to run with safety devices, and the PRO Access line uses a specific resistance-based edge sensor. We often find older Arlington installs where the safety edges were skipped entirely, or wired into the wrong terminal. That’s a code violation and a hazard. On a Linear install, we always wire the photo eyes and edges, test them under load, and show you the test before we leave.
  • OEM remotes and aftermarket clones that stop pairing. Linear uses MegaCode rolling-code remotes, and the aftermarket clone remotes are a mixed bag. Some pair fine. Others lose their programming every couple weeks, especially the ones sold online without proper frequency documentation. We stock genuine Linear MegaCode remotes and we can also pair compatible aftermarket transmitters that hold their code. If you’ve got a drawer full of remotes that don’t work, bring them to the shop and we’ll sort them out.

Our Linear Gate Installation Process

Every Linear job here follows the same path, whether it’s a new driveway gate or fixing an install somebody botched. Nobody cuts corners in an order that would make the gate less safe, and nobody leaves until the gate cycles right and the area is clean.

  1. 1
You call, we talk. A live person answers at (817) 241-4067. We ask what the gate’s doing, what brand of operator you have, and when you noticed it. We’ll tell you if it sounds like a small fix or a full install.
  2. 2
We come out and look. No trip charge inside Tarrant County. We check the posts, the gate alignment, the operator, the wiring, and the safety devices. We measure, we open the operator cover, and we tell you exactly what we see.
  3. 3
We quote a fixed price and we write it down. No guess-and-bump. The price we quote before the work is the price you pay. If we find something hidden, we call you before touching it. Nothing gets added without your okay.
  4. 4
We do the work in your driveway. On-site welding means the gate stays right where it is. We install the Linear operator, set the limits, wire the photo eyes and safety edges, and check every weld and bolt as we go. Hal’s name is on the shop, and he’s not going to leave a weld that looks like bird droppings.
  5. 5
We test it hard. Ten open-and-close cycles with a person standing in the gate’s path to confirm the safety reverse works. We test the keypad, the remotes, and the manual release. Then we walk you through it.
  6. 6
We hand you the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it isn’t right, one call brings us back. No runaround, no rescheduling games. That promise is stamped on the invoice, not buried in fine print.

What Linear Gate Installation Costs in Arlington

Around Arlington, most Linear jobs land in these ranges. These are real numbers from jobs we’ve actually done in this market, not national averages from a website.

  • Single swing gate with a Linear PRO Access operator: $1,800-$3,200
  • Double swing gate (two panels) with a Linear PRO Access or APeX operator: $3,200-$5,500
  • Slide gate with a Linear PRO Access slide operator: $3,800-$6,500
  • Pedestrian gate with a Linear keypad and strike: $900-$1,800
  • Operator-only replacement on an existing gate: $700-$1,400, depending on the Linear model and whether the wiring is still usable

What moves the price: the gate’s weight, the condition of the existing posts, whether we’re running new conduit for power, and which Linear series you have. Parts for the older APeX line are getting scarcer, which can push a repair price up if we have to hunt down a specific board. We quote every job before we start. Call (817) 241-4067 for a free estimate. We’ll give you a number that means something.

Why Arlington Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for Linear Work

We’ve been at this since 2001, and Hal Gatewood has been under gate operators long enough to know exactly how Linear gear behaves when it’s installed right and what it does when it isn’t. We’re locally owned, owner-operated, and our address is published. Hal’s phone number is the same one that’s been on the shop sign the whole time. When we say we’ll be there Thursday at 9, we mean it. Background-checked, uniformed, and accountable: that’s not a corporate slogan, it’s how we run every single job.

We service nine major gate brands, and that matters on a Linear installation. If you’ve got a Linear operator paired with a LiftMaster keypad, or a Mighty Mule on the back gate and a Ghost Controls on the front, we handle all of it. Same crew, same truck, same accountability. We also know DoorKing hardware, which shows up on a fair number of Arlington properties. Nobody here is going to tell you to buy a new operator when a $40 board or a $200 hinge kit fixes the problem. We’d rather do the smaller job, do it right, and pick up the phone when you call next time.
