BFT Welding & Fabrication: The Arlington Owner’s Guide

If you have a BFT gate with a cracked hinge, a torn mounting bracket, or a weld that finally let go after years of Texas wind, we stock and fabricate BFT-compatible parts right here in Arlington. Most welding and fabrication work on BFT gates runs between $180 and $450 installed, and we can usually have a welder at your gate the same day you call. The typical giveaway is a gate that suddenly sits crooked, scrapes the driveway, or a hinge post that leans a little more every time the wind blows.

What most owners notice first isn’t the weld itself. It’s the sound: a creak that wasn’t there last month, or a clunk when the gate reverses. By the time you can see the crack with your own eyes, the steel has been working against itself for a while. Especially here, where an Arlington summer cooks the powder coat off and a March thunderstorm soaks whatever’s left exposed.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT builds two main styles that need welding work done right: the Deimos and Phobos swing gate lines, and the Giuno and Rigel sliding gate series. The compatibility gotcha we see all the time is this: BFT changed their hinge bracket spacing on the Deimos line around 2016, so a bracket that fits a 2013 Deimos BT won’t line up on a 2019 Deimos BT A40. If your gate has a metal tag on the frame near the top hinge, the model number and build year are usually stamped right there. If that tag is gone, we match by measuring the bracket footprint and the pivot-to-pivot distance, because guessing gets expensive.

For most BFT parts, we lean OEM when it’s a load-bearing piece like a hinge pin or a gear rack mount. BFT steel is generous on those parts, and aftermarket copies sometimes save a few dollars by thinning the gauge. For non-structural brackets and covers, a quality aftermarket equivalent is usually fine and often costs 25 to 30 percent less. We’ll show you both options and tell you which one we’d put on our own gate.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags and drags on the driveway or rail. This is almost always a hinge post that’s pulling, not a panel problem. The weld at the base of the post cracks first, then the whole post leans and takes the gate with it.
  • A visible crack at a hinge, bracket, or weld joint. Rust streaking from the crack is a dead giveaway. Once steel cracks through, it keeps tearing, and the gate gets heavier on that joint every cycle.
  • The gate bounces or shudders when it starts or stops. A broken weld lets the gate flex instead of holding rigid. That flexing puts extra load on the BFT operator, and that’s a repair bill you don’t want.
  • You hear a metal-on-metal groan that wasn’t there before. That’s two bare steel surfaces grinding where a weld or bushing used to keep them apart. It’s telling you the joint is already compromised.
  • The gate doesn’t close flush with the catch post anymore. Something moved. Usually it’s a hinge that’s wallowed out or a bracket that’s cracked and letting the gate shift a half inch at a time.

Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice. That’s the rule we work by on every BFT welding job in Arlington.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what BFT welding and fabrication work runs in Arlington, installed:

  • Hinge bracket crack repair or replacement: $180 to $280
  • Hinge post re-weld or post base reinforcement: $220 to $380
  • Custom bracket fabrication to match BFT specs: $150 to $300
  • Gear rack mount re-weld (slide gates): $180 to $350
  • Full gate frame reinforcement with gussets: $280 to $450

Your price is quoted and agreed before we light a torch. It includes grinding out the failed weld, prepping the surfaces, welding in the repair or new bracket, and cleaning up when we’re done. If the gate is off its hinges by a lot, we’ll re-hang it so it swings true. Every welding job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if it’s not done right, we make it right. No fine print.

Also worth knowing: we’re an independent gate shop, not affiliated with BFT corporate. Which means we answer to you, not a regional manager. We put our name on the invoice because we’ll see you at the hardware store.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check on your own: look for cracked hinge welds, see if the gate post wiggles when you push on it gently, and check whether the gate is level when it’s halfway open. That’s useful information to share with us when you call.

What you should not do is fire up a hardware store welder and try to patch a load-bearing hinge. A BFT gate is heavy, and under tension the steel flexes constantly. A cold weld or an undercut on a hinge bracket can fail suddenly, and a gate swinging free in a wind gust is a serious hazard. We carry proper equipment, know which BFT series needs which filler, and we’ve been doing this since 2001 around Arlington, back when we were still fixing gates out of a truck with a busted AC and learning one broken hinge at a time. My name is Hal Gatewood. I’ve been welding and fabricating gate repairs in Arlington since before half these HOA neighborhoods existed. If you’d rather have someone who’s done it a thousand times, just give me a call, I’ll pick up: (817) 241-4067.
