FAAC Access Control Installation: The Arlington Owner’s Guide

FAAC access control installation in Arlington typically runs $350 to $900 installed, depending on the reader, keypad, or card system you need and whether your existing wiring is still sound. We keep the most common FAAC-compatible access control parts on the truck, so in a lot of cases we can knock this out same day when we’re already on site. Most Arlington owners call us after the keypad stops accepting their code, the reader quits recognizing cards, or the gate opens fine from the remote but won’t budge from the street side. You’ll know it’s the access control and not the operator when the motor still runs strong but the input just doesn’t register.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

FAAC access control spans a few distinct lines, and the parts don’t always cross over. The 455 D and 412 operators are the workhorses we see most around Arlington driveways, and they pair with FAAC’s 434 MHz receivers and DigiKey, DigiCard, and Radar keypads. The newer E124 and E145 swing and slide operators use a different control board entirely, so a keypad wired for a 455 D won’t play nice with an E-series board without a receiver and proper programming. Here’s the gotcha that trips up a lot of owners: FAAC keypads and readers made before 2015 used a different data protocol than the current ones, so a used part off eBay can look identical and still not communicate with your board. We match parts by the model label on the operator and the FCC ID on the receiver, not by how the housing looks. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, FAAC’s own readers and keypads hold up better in Texas heat than most generics, but there are a couple of quality aftermarket receivers we’ll install if you’re trying to keep costs down on an older gate. We’ll tell you plainly which one makes sense, and we stock both.

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • The keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t open. This usually means the relay on the control board isn’t firing or the wiring from the keypad to the board has a break. The keypad itself is often fine, and swapping it won’t fix the problem.
  • Cards work only when held within an inch of the reader. Read range on FAAC proximity models should be a few inches. If it’s degraded to practically touching, the reader’s antenna is failing or there’s metal interference that wasn’t there before.
  • The gate opens on its own without input. Not a ghost. A failing relay or a short in the access control wiring can send an open signal nobody asked for. This is also a security risk more than a nuisance, especially for driveways backing up to alleys in East Arlington.
  • One remote works, but the keypad and card reader don’t. That isolates it to the access control input path, not the operator or receiver. The board likely isn’t seeing the signal at all.
  • Intermittent operation, worse after rain. Arlington gets fast storms and then weeks of humidity. Moisture in an old access control housing, or corroded terminals, will cause exactly this kind of flakiness. It works in the morning, then not after a downpour.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

We charge by the part and the labor to install it, and both are quoted before any work starts. A straightforward FAAC-compatible keypad install in Arlington usually lands between $350 and $550. Card reader systems run $450 to $700 depending on reader type and how many cards you need programmed. A full access control upgrade with two entry points can reach $900. The range depends on whether your existing wire is still good, how far the keypad sits from the operator, and whether the control board needs a new receiver or relay at the same time. Every install gets the wiring checked first, the part programmed and tested at least three times before we leave, and our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. That promise is simple: if it’s not done right, one call brings us back.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check a few things without opening anything up: confirm the keypad lights up, make sure no landscape crews nicked the wire where it enters the ground, and verify your remotes still work so we know the operator itself isn’t the problem. Past that, this is low-voltage wiring and control board work, and that’s where a small mistake gets expensive. Wiring a new keypad backward can fry the control board, and a FAAC replacement board is not a cheap lesson. If you know electrical work and you’ve got the manual, a simple swap is doable on a mild afternoon. But if you’d rather not touch it, call us at (817) 241-4067 and we’ll come match the part to your board and get the gate working like it should.
